Google’s Creating A Street View-Like Program For Boaters In South Florida

You know how Google drives cars around the world capturing photos for its Google Street View maps service?

A version of that technology is happening now in South Florida’s waterways.

Google is partnering with the Marine Industries Association of South Florida to create a detailed visual map covering 143 nautical miles along the Intracoastal Waterway and Biscayne Baythe South Florida Business Journal reports.

It’s a first-of-its-kind collaboration, the MIASF says, noting that Waterway View imaging is beginning this month and continuing into May until the entire ICW is captured from the northern Palm Beach County line south to Key Largo.

The images will be published in March and boaters will be able to download a free Waterway View mobile app in June.
