The Sunshine State ranked No. 2 for growth in one-way arrivals of U-Haul trucks with an 8 percent rise year-over-year. The Phoenix-based moving equipment rental company said the increase could be attributed to a record-setting hurricane season in 2017.
Those arriving trucks accounted for 50.2 percent of all one-way U-Haul traffic to the state, according to data collected from the 1.7 million one-way U-Haul tuck rental transactions that occurred during the year.
“Florida’s “eternal summer” weather and lack of state taxes were also major drivers for the growth in new residents,” said Rainel Gonzalez, U-Haul Co. of Miami president said. “Doral grew from 12,000 people in 2010 to approximately 58,000 in 2016. Miami grew approximately 13 percent from 2010 to 2016. You can see the growth in new businesses coming to the area and in the real estate development. Miami’s growth is evident in the amount of new restaurants and high-end shops. It is hard to believe that Miami is still growing when the real estate market is higher than other parts of the country, as well as the cost of living being high.”
Miami, Kissimmee, Brandon, St. Cloud, Melbourne, Davenport, Boca Raton, Bradenton, Fort Lauderdale and Panama City Beach were cities that matched the state’s pace of growth for U-Haul truck arrivals.
Nationwide, Texas ranked No. 1, with Arkansas, South Carolina and Tennessee rounding out the Top 5. California had the largest percentage decrease in movers for U-Haul.
